Obituary

Alan "Al" Lyle Akey, 78, of Bella Vista, Arkansas passed away at home on January 28, 2024. He was born December 6, 1945, in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Lyle and Faith Akey.

Al relocated his family to Waukesha, Wisconsin in 1977 to build Marietta her dream home on a quiet cul de sac, surrounded by many friendly neighbors, also with young families. There, he raised his boys through the Waukesha school system, St. Andrew's Lutheran church, and the Boy Scouts.

After retiring from a long and successful career in computer programming, Al relocated with Marietta to Bella Vista, Arkansas in 2005, following their dear friends and Waukesha neighbors, Ryan and Lynn Smith, out of the cold weather. An avid fisherman, Al and Marietta's home, on the edge of Lake Ann, served Al well as the ideal boat launch for many years. The deck overlooking the lake was the perfect spot for his gas grill, where he happily prepared everything from burgers and bratwurst to Thanksgiving turkey and Christmas ham.

In retirement, Al found a new purpose as an in-home respite caregiver, serving as a companion to people with chronic health conditions, as well as providing needed support and relief to their families. Of special note, Al spent years caring for Greg, and became close friends with his parents, Karen and Doug Johnston. Al was also very fond of playing cards, and managed a number of card playing groups, providing a vital social outlet for many in the community.

Al was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Faith, and his sister, Bonnie.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marietta Akey of Bella Vista, Arkansas, and their sons, Rik (Cynthia) Akey of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Brian (Drew Nazarian) Akey of Seattle, Washington.
