Curtis Lee
Howell
Jul 4, 1941 — Feb 4, 2026
Bella Vista
Curtis Lee Howell, age 84, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of devotion to his family, faith, and community. Curtis was born on July 4, 1941, in Springfield, Missouri, to Curtis and Virginia Howell. He grew up in Willow Springs and graduated from Willow Springs High School before attending Southwest Missouri State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
On March 4, 1967, Curtis married the love of his life, Virginia. Together they built a life based on love, eventually settling in Independence, Missouri, where they raised their two sons, Carl Curtis Howell and Brett Lee Howell.
Curtis spent 32 successful years as a pharmaceutical representative with Bayer Pharmaceuticals, where he was known for his professionalism, integrity, and strong relationships with colleagues and clients.Curtis was deeply involved in his church and community. He served as President of the PTL at Messiah Lutheran Church and also as Athletic Director. He generously gave his time coaching his sons in various sports, creating lasting memories both on and off the field. A man of faith and music, Curtis loved singing in the church choir and later with the Bella Vista Men's Chorus.
He also found great joy in golfing, fishing, watching sports—especially cheering on the Missouri Tigers—and, most of all, spending time with his family. Curtis was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose steady presence, kindness, and love will be deeply missed.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Virginia Howell.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Virginia Howell; his sons, Carl Curtis Howell and Brett Lee Howell (Jeremi); and his cherished grandchildren, Paxton, Melissa, and Melinda. His family was his greatest pride and joy, and his legacy lives on through them.
A visitation will be held on February 16th from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Bella Vista Lutheran Church, with the funeral service following at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bella Vista Lutheran Church or Circle of Life Hospice in honor of Curtis Howell.
