Dr. Floyd Glenn Pohle, MD, passed away on October 5, 2026, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of service, entrepreneurial spirit, and lifelong learning. Born on October 18, 1939, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to the late Alfred G. and Bernice (Ihde) Pohle, Floyd moved with his family to Northwest Arkansas as a small child, where he grew up and graduated from Rogers High School.
Early in life, Floyd demonstrated a strong sense of duty. He served as a Cadet in the Civil Air Patrol and later entered the military, serving as a Private 1st Class in the Army National Guard from 1956 to 1958, receiving an honorable discharge. He went on to answer the call to serve in the United States Air Force as an Airman 1st Class from 1958 to 1962, stationing at Frankfurt AFB in Germany during the height of the Cold War.
On November 25, 1966, Floyd married the love of his life, Shirley J. (Morris), in Rogers, Arkansas. Together, they built a life rooted in love and shared adventure.
After graduating from the University of Arkansas in 1970, Floyd embarked on a successful business career. He co-owned Keller & Pohle in Houston, Texas, working as industrial belting and motors manufacturers' agents. In a colorful nod to Texas history, some of the very motors his business sold went on to power the famous mechanical bulls at Gilley’s.
At the age of 44, driven by a deep desire to help others, Floyd made the bold decision to sell his successful business to attend medical school. He relocated to Mexico to study at La Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara, where he proved his immense intellect and dedication by graduating 1st in his class in 1987.
After securing his medical licenses in Arkansas (1991) and Texas (1992), Dr. Pohle opened his first practice in Livingston, Texas, in 1993. He spent 14 years providing compassionate and dedicated care to his community before retiring from practice in 2007.
Floyd was a man who proved it is never too late to pursue a dream. Above all his unique achievements, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He also shared a special bond with his dogs; he was preceded in death by his beloved Labrador, Luci, and leaves behind his loyal Lab, Bell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Bernice Pohle; his stepmother, Julia Pohle; his daughter, Cherri D. Foreman; and his brother, Gene A. Pohle.
His memory will be forever cherished by his loving wife, Shirley J. Pohle; his daughter, Monica L. King and her husband, Michael of The Villages, Florida; his sister, Darylene Boatwright; and his beloved grandsons, Matt Foreman of Irving, Texas, and Sterling King of Clermont, Florida.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 12:30 p.m. at Fayetteville National Cemetery, 1000 S. Lt. Col Leroy Pond Ave., Fayetteville, AR 72701.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Circle of Life Hospice, Bentonville, AR.
