Bella Vista

Obituary

Edward Page Pharr, 93, passed away on May 29, 2022, in Bella Vista, Arkansas. He was born January 23, 1929, and was raised in rural Pine Log, Georgia.

Ed married Betty Wallace of Longview, Mississippi. During Ed's rise to progressively responsible positions in the printing industry, they lived in Tennessee, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, Kansas, and Oklahoma. They had two sons: Page, and Ed.  They retired in Bella Vista, Arkansas. With loyalty and compassion, Ed helped Betty through a long illness until she passed in 2017.

Ed Pharr worked for 40 years in the printing industry. His first job was as a pressman for the Atomic Energy Commission in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Then, through hard work and self-improvement, Ed learned all facets of offset printing, from graphic arts, plate making, and camera through color separation, typesetting, and binding. He took Printing Management courses at the University of Cincinnati (Ohio) to supplement his "hands-on" experience. In his progression from pressman to plant manager, Ed worked for Doubleday Publishers, The A.B. Dick Company, Gibson Greeting Cards, The Shaw-Barton Company, Intercollegiate Press, and Oklahoma State University, where he oversaw all printing operations at the university.

Ed Pharr sought perfection, knew the value of a dollar well spent, and lived frugally. Still, he enjoyed taking a risk. When his second son died unexpectedly in 1983, Ed learned to fly a plane and earned his pilot's license. Throughout his life, he was keenly interested in the stock market.

Ed played basketball, golf, and pool at various times in his life. He was a member of the Bella Vista Presbyterian Church.

Ed was preceded in death by his father, Hobart Pharr; his mother, Gertie Rogers; stepfather, Hugh Rogers; son, Page Pharr; and his wife, Betty Pharr.

Ed is survived by brother Bill Pharr and his son Ed (Andrea) Pharr.

With arrangements by Bella Vista Funeral Home, Ed will be buried at Bella Vista Memorial Garden Cemetery.  On-line condolences may be made at www.funeralmation.com.
