Jack Lawrence Storck, 87, of Bella Vista, Arkansas, passed away on June 6, 2024, at The Highlands of Bella Vista Health and Rehab. He was born to Russell and Ruth Storck. Jack graduated from Glendale High School in Glendale, California. He served two years in the Brethren Volunteer Service in Hastings, Minnesota, and Falfurias, Texas. During his service in Falfurrias, he met the love of his life, Vernona "Nona" Thralls. They were married on November 2, 1958, in Glendale, California.

Jack was survived by his wife, Nona of Bella Vista, Arkansas, and is survived by daughter June (Michael) Shockley of Wichita, Kansas, grandsons, Kenneth (Brin) Shockley, and Allen Shockley, daughter-in law, Cathy Storck of Cordell, Oklahoma, granddaughters, Jorie, Gracee, and Jalissa, and great granddaughter Skye. He was preceded in death by son, Myles, one brother, Frederick Storck, two sisters, Phyllis Palco and Virginia Ann Stepp, and his parents.

Vernona "Nona" Maurine Storck, 86, of Bella Vista, Arkansas, passed away on July 5, 2024, at The Highlands of Bella Vista Health and Rehab. She was born to Kenneth and Grace Thralls. Nona graduated from Falfurrias High School in Falfurrias, Texas, and attended McPherson College in McPherson, Kansas. While on summer break her junior year, she met the love of her life, Jack.

Nona is survived by daughter June (Michael) Shockley of Wichita, Kansas, grandsons, Kenneth (Brin) Shockley, and Allen Shockley, daughter-in-law, Cathy Storck of Cordell, Oklahoma, granddaughters, Jorie, Gracee, and Jalissa, and great granddaughter Skye. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack, son, Myles, three brothers, Rex Thralls, Don Thralls, and Roy Thralls who died in infancy, and sister LaVona Schnaithman, and her parents.

While each had special memories of a time before they met, their story is a lifelong journey shared together. Their honeymoon in November of 1958, was a move to Myrtle Point, Oregon, pulling a u-haul trailer behind them. Thus began their adventurous life together.

Jack worked for two years in Myrtle Point, Oregon, as a dairy farmer and gas station attendant, where they welcomed a daughter, June. The family relocated to Glendale, California, where Jack apprenticed as a carpenter for two years. In 1962, they moved to Cushing, Oklahoma, to partner with father-in-law Kenneth Thralls to farm and build modular homes. During their time in Cushing, they adopted two month old son, Myles. The expanded family then relocated to Garber, Oklahoma, where he built traditional and log homes, and remodeled existing homes. During economic slowdowns, he supplemented home building as an oil pumper. They stayed as long as necessary, but never a day longer - until they found their paradise in Northwest Arkansas. In 1990, Jack and Nona moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas, where he worked as a trim carpenter before his retirement.

Nona was a multi-talented musician. For many decades she was the accompanist for the Antelope Valley Church of the Brethren in Billings, Oklahoma. She continued her love of music as they moved to Bella Vista, singing, and playing handbells with the First United Methodist Church of Bella Vista and playing the alto saxophone with the community band. She worked as a bank secretary and bank teller in order to allow her to do what she really loved, being outside. Between gardening, golfing, or hiking, she was happiest when she could enjoy the outdoors.

Along their journey, they would travel to visit family - always an important priority for them. The distance didn't seem to matter - Oklahoma to California with a stop off in Arizona, and then later, Arkansas to Kansas, Oklahoma, Ohio, or Florida - with bonus points if a mountain range, lake, or National Park was included. Once both retired, the call of the road became stronger, and a camping trailer soon became their headquarters for time on the road.

When they weren't traveling, their lives were about service to others and their Lord.   Their service would take different routes - Nona mainly through music - and Jack through helping others: ushering, driving the bus to pick up members for worship, or helping to park vehicles. They both would help make items for the craft bazaar - and each were their partner's greatest fan and supporter. Anytime Nona was making a dessert for someone, Jack insisted on being the official taste tester - or quality control, as he called it. Thankfully, Jack's diligent taste testing resulted in excellence in Nona's famous apple pie. They enjoyed hosting friends and family in their home for a meal and fellowship - which wasn't complete until the dessert came out - and when asked if you would like pumpkin pie or apple pie? "Yes, Please!" was a perfectly acceptable response (according to Jack).

Besides the family listed above, Jack and Nona's passing will leave a void in the lives of their nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends they've made across their wide travels.

A joint memorial service will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024, at 2:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church in Bella Vista, Arkansas.
