Jackie Joe
Hoppers
Jul 8, 1942 — Apr 20, 2023
Bella Vista
Jackie Joe Hoppers, of Bella Vista, Arkansas passed away on April 20, 2023. He was born to Charles E. and Faye Lucille (Hanks) Hoppers on July 8, 1942, in Urbana, Missouri.
He attended grade school and high school in Tunas, Missouri. The Hoppers family had a Grade A barn where Jack milked 35 cows before going to school every day. Growing and cutting hay was part of their routine. Many bales of hay were hauled north and sold using their truck "Big Red." Jack and his dad ultimately switched from dairy cattle to white face beef cattle prior to his graduation from high school.
In 1961 Jack arrived in Kansas City and got a job as a messenger boy at Merchants-Produce Bank, 6 th & Walnut, just off the City Market area. Imagine a boy, used to the farm suddenly wearing a white shirt and tie, walking the sidewalks to downtown twice a day. To say his feet suffered would be an understatement.
Jack married Linda Marie Richards in 1964 and were blessed with two daughters, Karen Lynn, and Jacqueline Ann.
Jack held several positions at the bank, in his more than thirty years, including messenger boy, bookkeeper, teller, and computer programmer. He was instrumental in bringing the bank into the computer age as Sr. Programmer, Manager and ultimately Sr. Vice President. In 1993 Jack went to work for BancTec, Inc. running their data centers which were purchased by Jack Henry, Inc. Jack had very loyal customers, some becoming life-long friends including: Bill Wyckoff with Labette Bank in Altamont, Kansas; Allen Lefko and Bill Lefko with Grain Valley Bank in Grain Valley, Missouri; Roger Durant with Horizon State Bank in Cameron, Missouri; and Greg Hall with Concordia Bank in Concordia, Missouri.
Jack retired from Jack Henry, Inc in 2005 when he and Linda built their dream house on Loch Lomond in Bella Vista, Arkansas. Jack spent his retirement years consulting, playing cards, hunting, watching college sports, and working with several volunteer organizations such as the funeral ministry at St. Bernard Catholic Church, Horses for Healing, and Care & Share of Gravette. Jack fully supported his family in the Catholic faith by attending mass weekly and sending the girls to Catholic school. Jack converted to Catholicism himself in 2017.
Jack suffered with Primary Progressive Aphasia since 2010. The family would like to thank the caregivers of Magnolia Place Memory Care and Apple Creek Health for providing such loving care for Jack for the last three years.
Jack was preceded in death by his father, Charles in 1973; his mother, Lucille in 2001; and his brother, JR in 2012.
He leaves a loving family including the love of his life, Linda of 59 years; daughter, Karen (Rob) Norton, Raymore, MO; daughter, Jacque (Curtis) Scheffe, Aledo, TX; four grandchildren, Rustin Chance (Erin) Norton, Basehor, KS, Jack Parres, Kansas City, MO, Hannah Scheffe, Denver, CO and Nicholas Scheffe, Aledo, TX; and his first great-grandchild, Matthew Chance Norton.
Visitation will be at 9:00 am on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 with Rosary at 9:30 followed by 10:00 am funeral Mass at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 1 St Bernard Ln, Bella Vista, AR 72715. The burial will be later at Howard Chapel Cemetery, Urbana, MO.
