James Edward Scantlin, 68, of Bella Vista, AR, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026. He was born on October 15, 1957, in Bentonville, AR, to James Henry & Ella Elizabeth Scantlin.

James was a loving husband and the proud father of five sons, whom he cherished deeply. His family was the center of his life, and he took great pride in guiding, supporting, and encouraging his boys through every stage of life. He spent his life devoted to his family, faith, and community.

Known by many as "Coach," James dedicated countless hours to mentoring young athletes and shaping lives both on and off the field. His patience, leadership, and passion for helping others left a lasting impact on everyone he coached.

An avid outdoorsman, James found peace and joy in nature. Whether spending time outside, enjoying the quiet of the outdoors, or sharing those experiences with family and friends, he appreciated the simple blessings of life.

James was a faithful member of Hiwasse Christian Church where he lived out his faith and served faithfully as an elder.

He will be remembered for his strong character, generous spirit, faith, and unwavering dedication to the people he loved. His legacy lives on through his family, friends, and the many lives he touched throughout his years.

James will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

James was preceded in death by his father, James H. Scantlin; his brother, Mark Scantlin; and his son, Gary Scantlin.

He is survived by his loving wife of over 47 years, Debbie Scantlin; sons, Alex Hammontree (Erika), Dan Hammontree (Brandie), Max Hammontree (Debra), & James Leo Scantlin; several grandchildren & great grandchildren that were the light of his life: Cade Hammontree, Madison Hammontree, Bret Damron, Bronson (Morgan) Hammontree, Ella Grace Scantlin, Grayson Scantlin, Madilynn Tanner, & Emery Hammontree; his mother, Ella Scantlin; brother, John Scantlin (Terri); sisters, Marcy Lumpkins, Nancy Osborn, Vivian Dobbs (James), Carol Sullivan (Guy), & Linda Scantlin.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Bella Vista Funeral Home, 2258 Forest Hills Blvd. Bella Vista, AR 72715, followed by a funeral service at 11:05 a.m. and burial at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Hiwasse, AR.
