Joan Looney Galbraith, 89, passed away on April 20, 2025. She was born June 7, 1935, to John and Eleanore Looney in St. Louis, Missouri.  She moved to Kansas City at a young age with her parents and brother, Jack.

Joan and her family were members of St. Augustine's Parish, where she also attended grade school.  Here, she met many lifelong friends, with whom she had a bridge and sewing group that met as often as they could in later years.  She also met her future husband, Don Galbraith, during those years at St. Augustine's. Joan graduated from Bishop Hogan High School in 1952, then attended 2 years of Jr. College.  Until her marriage to Don, Joan worked for 2 years at an area retail store in downtown Kansas City, MO and then at Bendix Corporation.

Joan and Don were married in the spring of 1957 and settled in the Kansas City area and started raising a family.  In the late summer of 1969, in what was viewed by some as an unprecedented move, Joan and Don with four children and the family dog, relocated out to rural Johnson County, Kansas.  There, they grew from a family of 6 to a family of 7.

Joan and Don liked travelling.  Historic places were on their list of favorite places to go, but most often traveled to visit children and their families that lived out of town.  They attended Grandparent Days at schools and various sporting events the grandkids participated  in.

After living almost entirely in Kansas City and surrounding area, Joan and  Don moved to Northwest Arkansas, making their home there for 20 years. There, once again, Joan made some fabulous friends and continued playing bridge and enjoyed gardening.

Joan  was preceded in death by her husband, Don, in 2015 and daughter-in-law, Nancy Galbraith in 2024.

She leaves behind five children: Kathy Aue (Tim), Steve Galbraith (Abby), Paul Galbraith, Jenni Meyer (Dan), Mike Galbraith (Heather); nine grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Services will be held Friday, July 18th at 2:00 p.m., at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 1300 NE  J. Street, Bentonville,  Arkansas.  Internment in the columbarium after services,  reception to follow.
