Dr. John Garrett, aged 83, of Gravette, AR, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2024, at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale, AR, surrounded by his loving wife, and both daughters. He was born on March 23, 1941, in Rogers, AR, to William Paul and Elsa Belle Garrett.

John's journey began in Rogers before he moved to Gravette while still in elementary school. He graduated from Gravette High School in 1959, where he met his future wife, Jeanie, whom he married in 1962. He attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and, after only three years of undergraduate study, was accepted into UAMS Medical School in Little Rock, AR from which he graduated in 1966. Following medical school, John completed his residency at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, TX. He then served as a physician in the Air Force at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines from 1968 to 1970.

Upon returning to his hometown of Gravette, one of Dr. Garrett's proudest accomplishments was collaborating with Dr. Billy V. Hall to design and establish a state-of-the-art hospital for the community where he was raised and was so important to him. This facility was instrumental in serving Gravette and the surrounding rural areas. Dr. Garrett devoted 20 years to this mission before establishing a private practice in Bentonville. There, he fulfilled a dream with the opening of the Garrett-Goss Clinic built on his Uncle Clyde's farmland on Moberly Lane, predicting the area's growth and contributing to its development.

Dr. Garrett was known for his exceptional skills as a family practice physician. Over the years, he delivered hundreds of babies, performed numerous surgeries, and made house calls with his signature black leather doctor's bag. His patient-centered approach, bedside manner, and witty personality earned him respect and affection from those he cared for. Outside of his medical career, John was a sports car enthusiast, a dedicated dog lover, and an avid Razorback fan, often traveling to games with family and friends in his motorhome.

John was a devoted family man who cherished his role as a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His love and pride for his family were evident in everything he did.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Jeanie Garrett; his two daughters, Laura Comer, and Amanda Garrett-Whitney (Jimmy Duval); his four grandchildren, Garrett Comer (Kayley), Addison Whitney, Bailey Comer, and Olivia Whitney; and his two great-grandchildren, Keaton Comer and Cooper "Johnny" Comer; special family friend, Mark Melton; and his beloved dog, Coco.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 5, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Bella Vista Funeral Home, 2258 Forest Hills Blvd., Bella Vista, AR 72715, with a funeral service at 2:00 p.m., followed by the burial at Bethel Cemetery, Gravette, AR.
