John R. McKenzie IV, known to friends as "J.R.," died Wednesday, July 1, 2021, at the age of 84 years.  He was born on December 23, 1936 in Omaha, NE to Mary Lou and John McKenzie III.

A native of Omaha, NE, John graduated from the University of Nebraska Omaha with a bachelor's degree in business and continued on to Creighton University Law School in Omaha. He married his high school sweetheart, Janice, and went on to raise two daughters and a son. He was in the transportation industry for over 40 years, living in Omaha, NE St. Louis, MO, and the Quad Cities, IA, before retiring as President of Alter Transportation Group. After retiring, John served on numerous boards and volunteered at both of his homes in St. Louis, MO and Bella Vista, AR. John loved staying active and healthy. He was an avid golfer and played regularly with his golfing buddies in many different golf leagues. He even had two hole in ones.  John also loved long distance biking, riding across Colorado and Iowa a few times in younger years. He loved sailing, playing hockey and Ice skating. He continued to stay active more recently retiring to a three-wheel bike and taking 25 mile bike rides with his biking friends weekly. John also walked at least an hour every day on walking trails with his walking sticks.

John loved his family and is survived by his wife, Janice; Sister-In-Law, Lois-Lynne Mathisen, children, Paula McKenzie, Karen McKenzie-Feldewerth, and TQ Vo; grandchildren, Tiffany Vo Perez (Ernie), Tracy Vo Harris (Craig), Tuan John Vo, Drew and Matt Feldewerth; great grandchild Quynh John Harris.
