Sulphur Springs

Obituary

Our beloved June Ellen (formerly Nagel, Handy, Wiggins) Stone, 86, of Sulphur Springs, Arkansas, sadly left us on December 20, 2024, at Highland Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Bella Vista, AR. June was a vibrant spirit who touched the lives of all who knew her, and her family and friends will greatly miss her.

Born to Harry and Lucille (Barney) Nagel on July 5, 1938, in St. Louis, Missouri, June was the eldest of three daughters. She was preceded in death by Norma [Robert, predeceased] Hopkins, and she is survived by Carol [Ron, predeceased] King.

June attended Roosevelt High School and Patricia Stevens Modeling and Charm School. She worked at Procter & Gamble, became a Playboy Bunny, and retired from Lander Binding & Finishing. When she moved to Sulphur Springs, AR, in 2004 to live with her daughter Joyce Young and her family, June joined the local Friendly Neighbors club, a cause that was very dear to her heart.

She was known affectionately as "June Bug"—a nickname that suited her spunky personality. In her youth, she loved to dance—especially the Carolina shag. One of her favorite things was driving her Cadillac to North Carolina and St. Louis to visit loved ones. She also enjoyed cooking delicious meals, working in her flower garden, and feeding swarms of beautiful hummingbirds every year. She had a great time shopping at flea markets, always on the lookout for toys for her great-grandchildren. June's friends will treasure memories of playing cards and Farkle with her, and her family will miss "Mema's" bright smiles and warm hugs.

June is survived by her children—Joyce [Ken, predeceased] Young of Arkansas; Ken [Judy] Handy, Raymond [Karen] Handy, and Melinda Wiggins of Missouri—and her stepchildren—Lisa [Mark] Heibel of Missouri; Jamie [Sheila] Stone, Mamie [Miller] Caison, Tim Stone, and Kevin [Donna] Stone of North Carolina. June was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren and eleven stepgrandchildren, as well as a great-grandmother to twelve great-grandchildren and fifteen step-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved grandson, Matt Heibel.

June's family and friends will gather to celebrate her life on December 27, 2024, at 11 AM at Bella Vista Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will begin at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that any memorial donations benefit the Friendly Neighbors. Checks should be made to Friendly Neighbors and sent to PO Box 67, Gravette, AR 72736.
