Obituary

Martha Louise Bennett Wettersten, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away at the age of 102 on September 6, 2026. Born on July 17, 1924, in Shreveport, Louisiana, Martha was a beacon of love and warmth to all who knew her.

The daughter of Martha Ray Martin and Clyde Mortimer Bennett, Martha grew up in Dallas, Texas, where she attended Highland Park High School. She married the love of her life, Philip Bourland Wettersten Sr. on September 7, 1946, in Dallas. Together, they embarked on a remarkable journey that took them around the world, starting with Phil's career at Mobil Oil Corporation. Their family grew as they traveled, living in Venezuela for 10 years, followed by stays in Libya, Holland, and London, before settling in New Jersey in 1968. In 1984, Martha and Phil retired to Bella Vista, Arkansas, where they enjoyed the tranquility and beauty of their surroundings.

Martha was a devoted member of the P.E.O. sisterhood for an extraordinary 81 years, demonstrating her commitment to the empowerment and education of women. Her love for bridge was equaled only by her dedication to her church community, where she was known for her kindness and generosity. Martha had an incredible ability to make everyone feel cherished and important.

The family extends its deepest gratitude to the medical team at Mercy ER in Bella Vista and to her caregivers at Mercy in Rogers for their kindness and compassion during Martha's final days.

Her vibrant spirit and unwavering love will be dearly missed, but her legacy will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Her family meant the world to her. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Philip; her brothers, Carroll, Donald, and Kenneth Bennett; her son, Philip Bourland Wettersten Jr.; and her daughter, Sue Inzetta.

Martha leaves behind a legacy of love through her surviving children: daughter, Amy Anderson and son, Peter Bennett Wettersten; as well as her nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Martha's life will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 28, 2026, at the Presbyterian Church of Bella Vista, 1880 Forest Hills Blvd., Bella Vista, AR 72715.
