Bella Vista

Obituary

Marvanelle Nelson was born on June 9, 1938, in Albuquerque, NM and passed away on April 17, 2024, in Bella Vista, Arkansas after a brief illness.

She attended NAU in Flagstaff, AZ after high school, and after 1 year there,  she met the love of her life, George Charles Nelson and they were married shortly afterwards.  George and Marvanelle were together for 67 years and hatched 5 children, David Michael (Madi), Brooke Leverett (Terry), Patricia Dougherty (Chuck), Judy Wuertz (Troy) and Ginger Devericks.

Marvanelle had a long and illustrious career in banking that began in Phoenix, AZ. She retired from CitiBank in 1999 to live in Albuquerque, NM and moved into the home where she lived with her parents during high school as well as where she and George married. Marvanelle and George later moved back to Phoenix until 2 weeks ago where they moved to Bella Vista, AR to be closer to their oldest daughter, Brooke.

Marvanelle loved playing cards and games with her family and friends, but especially Bridge, which she learned at a young age from her mother. She remained in bridge clubs until recently and garnered many new friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Nell Downer; her son, David; and her grandsons, Taye and Tayton Devericks.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, George; her children, Brooke, Patty, Judy, and Ginger; proud grandmother to 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren;  loving aunt to Kevin, Donna, and Brusan; cousin to many; and sister to George Downer (MaryJoy), whom she adored!

Her family expresses our utmost gratitude for the care she received from the doctors and nurses in Phoenix at Honor Health and Mercy at Bella Vista.

Speak of her often, with love and generosity of her sprit.

There are no services planned, and in lieu of flowers, it is her wishes that you please donate to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital.
