Obituary

Matthew Hershberger, 54, of Centerton Arkansas, sadly passed away on July 2, 2025, after losing his battle with lung cancer. Because of his outgoing personality and good sense of humor he made friends easily. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers.

Matthew was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on November 3, 1971, to Martin Hershberger (deceased) and Mary Ann Briggs. Matthew graduated from Dublin High School (Dublin, California) and Cuyamaca College. He was a Ford Master Mechanic until an on the job injury ended that career. He then worked at Walmart for the remainder of his life.

On February 10, 2010, Matthew married the love of his life Melissa Lee Sylvestre after being together since 2006. Melissa preceded Matthew in death on December 11, 2022. They are once again together forever. They never had children but considered Chico (dog), Peekaboo and Zoe (cats) their children.

Matthew was a loving husband to Melissa until her passing. Matthew was a caring son, stepson, uncle, cousin, nephew, friend, co-worker, and neighbor. He loved gardening, barbecuing, and the Kansas City Chiefs. He was a very competitive individual which made him excel at numerous activities like bowling, billiards and darts.

He was predeceased in death by his wife, Melissa (Sylvestre) Hershberger; father, Martin Hershberger; grandparents, Marion and Catherine Hershberger; and grandparents, Lou and Winnie Gould.

Matthew is survived by his mother and stepfather, Mary Ann & William Briggs (Sandston, Virginia); stepmother, Mary Hershberger (Carson City, Nevada); aunt, Christine Douglas (Alpine, California); cousins, Todd Cooper and Chad Cooper (Lemon Grove, California); brother-in-law, Matthew Sylvestre (Lincoln, Nebraska); and his nieces, Whitney & Hailey Sylvestre (Lincoln, Nebraska).
