Matthew Wayne
Sexton
Jul 5, 1959 — Aug 5, 2021
Bella Vista
Matthew Wayne Sexton, 62, went home to the Lord on August 5, 2021. He was born July 5, 1959 in Las Vegas, NM to Ray and Catherine Sexton.
He was married for 40 years to the love of his life, Shelly Sexton. Their marriage spanned three states, five homes, many jobs and career moves, and countless adventures. Their three sons, Eric, 37, Brett, 33, and Jacob, 25, and six grandchildren brought much joy to his life; he was always looking for opportunities to spend time with them. He loved his two daughters-in-law, Vivian and Amy, like they were his own daughters.
Matt was an excellent provider for his family. His career path has found him involved as a tradesman in the oil industry before transitioning into sales in telecommunications, the automotive industry, insurance, small business lobbying, financial planning, and finance.
He loved the outdoors, and could often be found on a mountain bike, canoe or kayak, motorcycle, or on a hiking trail wearing his trademark fedora. There was literally nothing that he couldn't fix from cars to plumbing and electronics. He was also adept at nearly any construction project he took on, from building his first bicycle as a child to doing 98% of the family's automotive work, his varied skills and knowledge were legendary. His acute sense of artistry was evident in every project from furniture for his children to sculptures crafted from steel. He was also quite the marksman with bows, rifles, pistols, and shotguns. He served tirelessly alongside his wife in every church they called home, whether as a Bible study teacher, home group leader, youth worker, or a bassist or singer in the band. If all of this was not enough, he also earned his black belt in American Bushido Kai Karate, taught others the martial art, and did many service projects with the organization.
He leaves behind an incredible legacy of servanthood, determination, loyalty, tenacity, and dedication to his lord and savior, Jesus Christ, that will never be forgotten by anyone who was blessed to know him. His legacy will live on through his widow and sons, all of whom know the Lord and serve Him wholeheartedly.
He is survived by his wife, three sons, two daughters-in-law, six grandchildren, and seven siblings: Kathryn Esquibel, Christina Romero, Stan Sexton, Roberta Fish, John Sexton, Harold Sexton, and Abel Sexton.
A celebration of life service honoring Matt will be at 6:30PM on Friday, August 13, 2021 at New Life Christian Church in Bella Vista, AR. The service will be livestreamed at https://live.newlifenwa.com .
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to the American Bushido Kai Karate Association in Matt's name. This is a Christian martial arts organization that was very special to Matt that uses martial arts as a platform for evangelism and ministry. Their website is www.abkakarate.com , and there is a link to donate on the homepage.
