Merlyn Ray Kiefer, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Bella Vista, Arkansas, on March 21, 2025, at the age of 88.

Merlyn was born on September 22, 1936, in Coleridge, Nebraska. He grew up on the family farm near Shelby, Iowa, where he developed a deep appreciation for hard work and community. He was active in high school athletics and 4H.  He later worked at the family produce store, continuing his family's legacy, before proudly serving in the United States Army. After his service, Merlyn dedicated over 32 years to the United States Department of Agriculture.  Known for his strong work ethic and commitment to his community, Merlyn's contributions touched the lives of many.

Merlyn and his beloved wife, Connie, retired in the community of Bella Vista, Arkansas 30 years ago, where they built a life filled with love and cherished memories.

Merlyn had a passion for life and loved the simple joys it offered. He was an avid fisherman and golfer in his earlier years and had an enduring love for sports. He was a proud supporter of his Iowa State Cyclones and later adopted the Arkansas Razorbacks as his second team. One of his greatest joys was analyzing the box scores after his grandsons' baseball games, a reflection of his deep appreciation for the accomplishments of his family.

Merlyn was also known for his meticulous nature and his love of working with his hands. He was often found tinkering in his shop, pouring himself into woodworking projects that showcased his skill and patience. He prepared the family garden with care every season, ensuring a flourishing harvest. There wasn't a broken item in his home that he couldn't fix, and his workshop stood as a testament to his meticulous organization, a place where every tool had its rightful spot. His industriousness and creativity left behind not only cherished projects but also lasting memories for those who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Verdie Kiefer of Clear Lake, Iowa, and his son Stephen of Council Bluffs, Iowa

He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Connie, of Bella Vista, Arkansas; his son Stuart (wife Mindy) of Southlake, Texas; his cherished grandchildren Tyler (wife Harper) of Little Rock, Arkansas; Ben (fiancé Cassidy) of Frisco, Texas; Charlie and Joshua of Omaha, Nebraska; Jessica (husband Bryce) of Altoona, Iowa; and great-grandchildren Eleanor, Braeden, Kent, and Charles.

The family will hold a memorial service on April 4, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Highlands Church in Bella Vista, AR.   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Highland's Church Columbarium Fund in Merlyn's honor.

Merlyn will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his kind heart, unwavering support for his loved ones, and his remarkable legacy that will endure in the lives of all who knew him.
