Robert Samuel Fairchild, Jr. (Bob) passed away at home in Bella Vista on November 20, 2025, four days before his 82nd birthday. He died after a long struggle with his health.
He was born November 24, 1943, in Ft. McPherson hospital at Atlanta, Georgia. He was raised in Fayetteville, Arkansas from the age of 5 years old. After graduation from the University of Arkansas, he was a career Army officer serving on active duty and later in the Army Reserves for 32 years retiring as a Colonel in 1997. He served two tours in the Vietnam War as an Infantry Company Commander and a Helicopter pilot.
He was elected to the Arkansas House of Representatives and served for ten years representing Fayetteville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Robert Samuel Fairchild, Sr. and Juanita Brown Fairchild and two sisters, Kathryn Marie Fairchild and Anna Marguerite Heath.
He is survived by a brother, Dr. William V. Fairchild and Mary Beth Fairchild of Bellavista, three children, Robert Samuel Fairchild, III of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Elizabeth Fairchild Clark and her husband Lt. Col. Jeffrey Dustin Clark of Beavercreek, Ohio, and James Robert Fairchild and his wife, Meaghan Samuels Fairchild of Seattle, Washington, eight grandchildren, one great grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.
