Virgil Allen Jones, 79, of Decatur, Arkansas passed away on Wednesday June 15, 2022, at Circle of Life in Springdale, Arkansas.

Virgil was born June 12, 1943, in Bentonville, Arkansas to Glen and Bonnie Galyean Jones of Hiwasse, Arkansas.  Virgil was a farmer from a young age in the Hiwasse community and spent his entire life in the area.  He would often recount the various fruits and vegetables he enjoyed growing and eating.  He was passionate about family history and ensuring that the family heritage was remembered and carried forward.  He could be found often recounting a story to his children and grandchildren that had been passed down to him early in life.

Virgil graduated from Bentonville High School in 1961 and married Leota Colville of Gravette, Arkansas in January 1963.  From this marriage, they had two children. Through much of his adult life, Virgil ran a farm of his own raising chickens for Petersons, working livestock auctions and attending estate auctions – his real passion.  Virgil loved baseball, cowboy art/folklore and all things history.  Later in life he enjoyed spending time with his companion Karen.

Virgil is survived by his companion Karen Taylor; two children, Leon Jones and wife Lisa of Highflll, Arkansas and Schelley (Jones) Wilson and husband Jeff of Rogers, Arkansas; six grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Saturday June 18 at 10:00 AM at the Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, 13455 North Mt Pleasant Road, Gravette, Arkansas 72736.  Funeral and graveside services will be immediately following visitation at 11:00 AM.
