Obituary

William Howard Armstrong, of Bella Vista, Arkansas, passed away peacefully at the age of 97 on December 18, 2024, after a fulfilling life spent in the service of others.

William, known as Bill to his friends and family, was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dollie, who passed away in December of 2023. Together they shared 76 years of marriage, creating a legacy filled with love, support, and devotion. He was a devoted father to his children, Claudia Tally, Denise Collins, David Armstrong, and, preceded in death, Mark Armstrong. Bill was Grandpa to five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren, all of whom will miss his presence. His life exemplified the virtues of strength, integrity, and kindness, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew him.

Bill was born in Detroit, Michigan, on December 30, 1926. He bravely served during World War II in the United States Navy, even seeing the raising of the flag on Iwo Jima. He dedicated 36 years of his life to the Detroit Fire Department, retiring as a Battalion Chief. He also served in many capacities and leadership over the years in the churches he attended.

He was an enthusiastic outdoorsman, cherishing his time spent fishing, a hobby that provided peace and solitude. His passion for model trains showcased his meticulous attention to detail, creating magical and detailed train scenes that became a cherished holiday tradition for family and friends.

In retirement, Bill and Dollie moved to Arkansas, living in Hot Springs Village for many years, then moving to the independent living community of Concordia Senior Living, where they enjoyed making new friends and participating in activities. During his final days Bill valued the tender care at Concordia Health and Rehab.
